Summer Reads! 'Quick, fun and exciting beach reads.'

Now that the days have gotten warmer, and the sun is high in the sky, it is time to head to the beach to get your toes cooled in the waters and relax for a few hours under an umbrella with a fabulous, fun and fantastic romantic read. Here are a few books that have been a quick read that follow some typical romance tropes, but were still worth the hours to be whisked away for the read.

QUICK READ - 'Maybe Not' by Colleen Hoover.

“She’s nothing I’ve ever wanted in a girl. And absolutely everything I need.”

This is an enemies-to-lovers story about Warren who lives with two brother, who are his friends, and Bridgette, the new roommate. She comes in hot, being mean and rude to the guys which incites Warren and Bridgette pull pranks on each other. Although the two seem to be enemies, they are very much attracted to one another. Bridgette has had a hard life which had made her into the tough woman she is today and Warren slowly manages to bring down her shield. Bridgette doesn’t feel that she deserves to be loved, but Warren changes that and the two soon fall madly in love.

There is lots of steamy bedroom scenes and Bridgette’s character developed beautifully for a novella. Overall, it was a quick fast paced novella that you’ll find yourself finishing in a couple of hours at 120 pages, so the perfect beach read!

FUN READ - 'Hot Vs Cute' by Dhara Shah

You can have a fun read with this fake relationship romcom!

Blurb: Who will Emma choose, a hot guy who gives her all the feels or a cute guy she can't stop thinking about?

Emma is good-looking and often dates hot guys interested in nothing more than hookups. She works for a start-up full of geeks. Kapil is the founder but the cutest of all. Emma doesn't like Kapil, but agrees to be his fake girlfriend because of his generous offer. She also continues to see Jared, a hot guy who gives her all the feels. She designs a sociology experiment to compare her dates with hot vs. cute guys. Things get messy when her fake relationship interferes with her true feelings.

It was a fun read and the classic trope of the fake relationship, so if you are looking for that, this one is for you.

EXCITING READ - 'Rock, Paper, Scissors' by Alice Feeney

Amelia and Adam are on their way to Scotland for a getaway, a trip that was won by Amelia in a raffle at work, with the idea of using the trip in an attempt to save their marriage. When they arrive at their destination, strange things start to happen.

One unique aspect of the book is that the author chose to have the character of Adam face blind. He has a disorder called prosopagnosia where he's unable to recognize people faces, friends or family, or even his own wife.

Rock Paper Scissors is a psychological-thriller, where it was never clear who could be believed or trusted, with a fun and surprising plot twist. This was my first book by Alice Feeney, but a very exciting and enjoyable read. It was a lovely summer weekend pastime, so I’ll definitely be looking into more by this author.
