-----EXERPT FROM GOOGLE BOOKS ------
"One day I'm married, living in Seattle, and #magic isn't real. The next, I'm divorced and living in the guest room of my ex's hotter- than-sin cousin's place in Savannah ... and talking to an animated skeleton named Robert. I have to admit, Robert isn't my worst date.
At forty-one, I didn't think I'd be starting over. But I'll be damned if my ex thinks I'm down and out because he pulled a fast one on me. When a job comes my way, that offers me a chance to use my childhood training in the shadow world, I take it - I need the money more than I care about my sanity. It's dangerous. I have to embrace the magic and dark of my past.
And I need Advil to keep me going.
But those who'd hold me back better sit up and take notice, because a new woman is in town, and she's not about to be counted out by anyone.Even if she does groan when she rolls out of bed in the morning."

I am not sure where to start. There were thousands of reviews on this series, so I picked up. I am always on the lookout for a good supernatural read that is a bit off the beaten path, and this was just what the doctor prescribed!
First, I loved the fact that it was called the 40 proof series, having just enough quirky qualities to the heroine that you would say she was taking a few hits to a flask every once in a while, especially with her constant reference to her age. I am well over a decade past her age and don't feel nearly as 'old' as she likes to refer to herself, but still loved all the sass and comedic innuendos she made to her age, life, and situation. However, there were the few brilliant moments where she made you realize that age/experience gives one an advantage in some situations and made her a kick a$$ character.
By chapter two, I was hooked and loved every moment in the #book, eventually picking up the next few in the series to add to my 'must read' list. It lived up to all those reviews and that is saying something! Usually I am let down when there feels like a lot of hype around a #series, but for this book the hype was spot on.
