Not only is a good romance #novel a way to escape reality for a short moment in time, but it allows your body to respond to what it is reading, sending 'happy signals' to the brain and getting those chemicals to work as they would if that happiness portrayed in the story was actually happening to you.
Romance is a genre that sometimes gets a bad rap, with people judging it as being insubstantial and contrived, even being viewed that way by other authors.
“Do you actually read that?” (I can hear the sarcasm and the word 'trash' in their voice when they ask that question, but if they only knew how much this does for me and my sanity...)
However, there is no limit to the amount of articles written on the benefits to laughter and happiness in aiding the healing process. When reading a good #romcom that literally has you laughing so hard that you are crying or you lie back after putting that touching #romancebook down, sighing with satisfaction, how do you quantify those reactions?
Including social or personal issues
I have given voice to my characters, using my personal experiences to make my protagonists approachable, believable and someone you, as the reader, will relate to - I hope - and through them I have time to work on my own issues or focus on problems in society I want to address. Each of my #books has more to it than romance, it has mystery or fantasy or is a thrilling ride, a growth to the characters through trying times and some kind of driving force that will make them become the person they were meant them to be. All the while finding that person who will understand them and be by their side for the journey, a true romance of our time.
